Attributes & usage of glass in Decorative Arts. Visualisation of a piece of stained glass synthesis that took place during my studies at the TEI of Athens, Greece.
Procedure: An abstract full size design was first created on paper & then translated into stained glass. Solid lines were painted thickly, carefully tracing the design. The coloured glass was then selected, cut to size with a glass cutter, while awkward curves were nipped with a pair of mooth-jawed pliers. The project was assembled on a large table, each lead being cut and bent to fit its pane. As the work progressed, completed parts were held against battens by nails tapped into the table. Finally the whole panel was sealed with mastic which was brushed hard into all the joints.
